You mean this:

This has been fixed in a newer, unreleased version of ETE.

It's basically a self-indicator. You show up as green in the playerlist and with a "@" in the teamlist. I believe this is only in TE mode, not normal teamplay mode.

When you're a captain the "@" disappears and is replaced by the "*". You are the only one who sees your own "@".

That's all there is to it, really.
