Some humble Action Quake suggestions to make it more real.

* The weapons should lock up in water. At least not fire as they do now!

* In teamplay it should be a server switch to set on friendly fire or not.
Mayby it is not a good idea in internet games but in LAN games where everybody
knows eachother it would be pretty fun.

* Please make a helmet! Check out 3team Action Quake and se whats it like NOT
being killed in an instant every time.

* Make an attachment to the other weapons so they allso would have zoom-in ablity.
Not so far as a sniper Rifle but 2x or 3x zoom is enough.

* A pair of Binoculars (<- that isn�t spelled right, I know!!) would be great to check for any sniper activity far away.

* A new weapon like stationary machinegun for real teamplay matches. A rocket launcher
is maybe a bit steep but a grenade launcher. It also is a liter harder to use!

* AND FOR ALL MAP MAKERS! Stop doing city maps all the time. Can�t anybody do something original like a forrest?

Why would people want to make aq2 more real? If i wanted a real life game. i woudl get a life.

Action Quake2 is Action Quake2 because it is Action Quake2. Doing what you said would make it something else

Get it?

Want that stuff, put in yourself... In the case of water locking up weapons, try Dirty first, before putting it in. You may find you hate it.

Get down, get Dirty...

Aint I just terrible?

If I wanted a real life game, I'd play Skirmush more often, but it's too expensive.

I think your right Slayer They Should Add Some Stuff To Keep The People Motivated.
The Machine Gun Isnt Really Something You Can Have On action Its Not Really a Good Thing to Have In Action Quake2.The Helmet Would Be Nice, Water Jam Is good, Maybe A grab Command
So you Can Grab Onto Stuff HAng From Stuff
grab Weapons Snap Necks Like Dirty Action

Ummm ...

*9 out of 10 guns work just fine under water ... and very few new guns are dangerouse (i can refer you to a few studies in this area if you want evidence) slower FSP bullet travel but thay still work ...

*FF is a seperat AQ2 mode , but i too think it would make a nice addition to the AQ2 base code ...

*the helmet as a new item has come up befor and i like the idea too ... but it would take an addition to code as well as a new model ... and as Action Q2 is about that action movie feel , and i haven seen meny helmets in action movies i dont think its too likely ... then thier is the hole 'game balance' thing with any one killable with any one shot (a good thing in my book) ...

*the sniper rifles zoom is one of the things that makes it stand out ... giveing other weapons scopes would not only add a lot of codeing but take away one thing that makes the SR diferent ...

*field glasses would be an interesting idea , one level of zoom as an option , but thier is no "activate item" button so how would you use it ? so beyond the new model thier is new code to add ...

*thier are stationary machine guns in the game ... check out the "beach assault" map ... it also has a rocket fireing helecopter and land mines , this is the only way to add this stuff with out radicly changeing the mod (and i like it the way it is , as i think most others do too)... thier is also cannons and air strikes in the destert base map (i think thats the one) ...

*a forest map would be great and thier has been a lot of talk about how to do it and still have a playable map ... its not easy and no one has found a trick to make it work (and meny have tryed) ... the problem comes down to R-speed , with a bunch of trees in an open area you will have the mother of all R-speed drags ... city buildings are big squares , easy for the computer to handle ... but a forest full of trees would choak 9 out of 10 computers ...

note , none of this is "official" its just that most of this stuff has come up befor so im just passing it on , if you feal strongly about any one thing feel free to press on and find a way to do it (especialy the forest map , lots of people would like to see that) ...

haveing said all that dont let this discourage you from trying or sugesting new ideas , 9 out of 10 will be shot down (more like 99 out of 100) but sooner or later someone will come up with something so good it will be worth the effort to add it , who it is and what it will be remaines to be seen ...nb...

As for a helmet: exactly how would it work? I mean, you get hit straight on with a sniper round, it's gonna go far enough in to knock you out if not kill you. On the other hand, an MP5 shot _might not go far enough in for a kill. He's an idea, and it (maybe) wouldn't even be to hard to code. Have it act like the Kevlar for lighter rounds, but only on some percentage of hits, like 1 in 3, and on heavier rounds (SR, etc.) it would have zero effect. That way it wouldn't be completly reliable, so not everyone will ditch the kevlar for it. And on a 2+ item server, guys w/ kevlar and helmet still wouldn't be invicible.

lots of coding, but to continue on the FriendlyFire in the base code thing- what if we made it server-configurable, as to *which* weapons are friendlyfire. It adds a bit more control, and control for an op is always a good thing.

oh, FK, i don't knwo about the 9 of 10 guns being able to shoot underwater. The MP5, heavily used by SEALs, is capable of firing 1 shot underwater, but only if its kept internally dry (a lot of people put condoms over the muzzle for this). Once the bolt cycles, though, water gets in, and that gun is useless.

however, the Glock 17 is highly touted as being able to fire underwater. You need a special firing pin or something, but it will fire underwater, accurately, up to about 20-30 feet. Somewhere on the web are pics of someone shooting a glock17 while submerged, at a door. It penetrated the door at 20 feet. The problem is that bullets are unstable enough in air, denser water screws them up totally.
(and wow, i woudln't want to be under water when a gun fires. that would be LOUD!!)

Maybe a good idea for a weapon firing under water is to make the person firing take a couple points of damage per shot because of the noise.

The field glasses actually wouldnt be to hard to code, just stick the handcannon in the guys head, so the 2 barels stick out of his face. They could just copy and past part of the sniper zoom code, and you could have it so you can bind a key "use glasses" or something.

I'll have to take a screen shot.
Was having a game on the newish map, Habour1 (yeah?) and ended up in the harbour, along with me enemy. Anyhow, he turns and empties both clips at me... but every bullets ends just before hitting me. Two bubble trails, side by side, right in front of me.

Well, I thought it looked cool....

Hi I think Assassinate the Leader selection process ought to be done on the highest scorer for each team. I run a server that regularly gets 10 or more players, but I find they get increasingly pissed off when gung-ho newbies run off into battle when they are leader...

Being able to tell if someone shot you in the back would be nice, ie 'neg was COWARDLY shot in the back by EvilCoward'. Not very pleasant to be, but damn fun to do.... It's something that's always mentioned at out lan games.
FF should be in the AQ2 code base as an option.

City maps???

Whats wrong with that??? I think that citymaps are great but i'd like some other than Urban and City. These are good maps but all the other mappers are making maps that are almost copyes of them. Especially the newbies they have played these maps and want to do something like that!

There are a few things that would help AQ:E. What about the ability to blow people limbs off? I once saw this ability in Q1 with zombies, adding extra blood, you shoot someones arm, it fly's off he can't shoot as well, u shoot his other arm, he can't fire at all? Legs would be harder to shoot off etc. There should also be end of round map voting as well, also a person could propose a vote once per round, if he gets a certain percentage of the peeps the map changes.

Weapons could also jam sometimes, especially if u pick it off a steaming corpse. Maybe the ability to booby trap weapons, u pick a gun then it takes a few seconds to trap and u put it down again. If someone picks it up and tries to fire it, it explodes hurting them a bit (20 points?). Also I think there should be some explosives, maybe the option of some C4 or pipe bamb with a bandolier instead of just a grenade?

Blowing off limbs is tricky in Q2. Theres no good way of doing it, and still leaving the normal skin selection intact. Also, the amount of just new models is rather high

I will put in my vote for map voting. Just make it so you can skip to the next map in the map cycle. Just make a console command called "changemap" or "vote-map" to change the map. If more then 50% type it in the console it will change to the next in the rotation. Also print in the screen "Blaze has voted to change maps" so people know a map is in progress.

Apart from ATL leader selection being based on highest scorer on each team, I think it would be great to have that firefight optimiser code (handling sounds better) also written into the next release of the Scenarios server/client. I run a cable server, and even with 10Mbit cable, only 10 people in the game and no bulletholes or shells, firefights still sometimes lagg. Especially with respawning in ATL.
