In response to a brief discussion yesterday, AQDT brings you an experimental version of AQ that should reduce the nasty lag associated with huge firefights. Essentially the way the weapon sounds are handled has been changed to be more efficient and bandwidth-friendly. Servers just need to run the new dll. Any clients that connect need to get the small client pack - it's basically the normal AQ weapon sounds renamed to fit the new sound scheme and should have no effect on regular AQ servers. hal[9k] - AQDT

Cool Hal. ![]() How possible is it for the AQDT to work with Zuchinni and Fireblade and together release new versions? I would love to see this add on worked into the official code ------------------ IP: 207.61.89.100 |

Hal, I think you should probably add a readme file that tells where to extract to, not everybody will be able to figure it out, and you will probably get a lot of e-mails aboutit. ------------------ Play AQ: Espionage... IP: 35.10.148.223 |

README(short form): Everything unzips into the action directory. I couldn't really say about FB/Z. This version also includes fixes for the "out of ammo" and "player died" bugs. Note that this is an experimental version - I'm just throwing it out there for people to mess with and see if it helps the lag problem. If it turns out to be beneficial, then we can see about it making it "official." ------------------ IP: 130.18.15.88 |

Okay,I'm probably not gonna grasp this properly, since I've been up for a very long time with no sleep, but what about all my custom sounds?I ripped a whole bunch of .wavs from a DooM wad(pistol, chaingun, shotgun, ssg, etc),and I intend to add a bunch more, but can't I just use my sounds?I don't much care for the original sounds... ~Canus ------------------ www.geocities.com/Area51/Capsule/4848 (Under sporadic construction...) damn, damn, damn.... the client pack was supposed to have the sound/weapons path in it... the first version did... grrr.... ive uploaded a fixed version to telefragged... if you have the old version (with no path names), unzip it into action/sound/weapons here's the way the sounds map: Mk23 - action/sound/weapons/blastf1a.wav The silencer sound should just be something that's quiet, cause it gets played in addition to the M4 sound. If you want to use different sounds, just copy to the appropriate sounds from the above list. And yes, the MP5 sound needs to be copied into all 5 files. Note also that these files will have no effect on normal servers, just the ones running the lowlag dll. hal[9k] - AQDT ------------------ IP: 130.18.15.88 |

Does this affect any sounds you currently have, or are these just add-ons? Just wondering cause other people and I have custom Action sounds... ------------------ IP: 24.88.34.226 |

The lowlag dll will reference the sounds that I listed above. If you want to use custom sounds with the lowlag dll, then you need to copy those custom sounds to match those files (blastf1a.wav for Mk23, etc.). IP: 130.18.15.88 |

My brother made a sound pack from the 'original' action quake, Navy Seals. He took the sounds of most of the weapons, except for the Handcannon and made a pak of them. It's really good. The pistol strikes fear, the mp5 sounds like a real gun, and the m4 will make you sh!t your pants. I believe Gooseman got them from firing his personal collection. Anyways, I could send this to the guild, correct? ^dam IP: 209.181.122.188 |

Wow, I must pimp this on the server I play locally. ------------------ "Stress; the condition created when the mind overrides the body's basic desire to choke the living shit out of some arsehole who desperately deserves it" IP: 202.27.76.102 |

You guys do understand that this "fix" doesn't actually require new sounds, right? it's just looking for the same sounds under different filenames (although new sounds can certainly be used if desired).... you can actually play without any client-side changes, but you will be hearing normal Q2 weapon sounds... ------------------ [This message has been edited by hal9000 (edited 05-02-99).] IP: 198.78.58.206 |
