I'm currently working full time, but I'm going back to school in the fall to be a Paramedic. After almost 3 years of University I decided that my time could be better spent elsewhere. I have had several gatherings at my residence for the people in this community and I can honestly say that they are some of the best people I know. I know that you have heard a lot about the internet being an untrustworthy place, but I can assure you from personal experiance that this is not the case with these peopl (or myself).

Having attended Greasy Keyboards last year, I can also say that the accomodations are safe and the drive by and large uneventful.

When I first informed my parents of my intent to leave home to meet people I had never seen before at the original Greasy Keyboards, they were slightly concerned to say the least. Graeme (organizer of GK2K) is a very responsible adult, capable leader and well organized person.

General info: I was a GK99 attendee, had a really great time. Didn't meet anyone that I thought I should worry about. Met lots of people that would take care of someone that might have wished me or anyone else there harm. Not gonna make it for the full event cuz I'm having a baby at the end of july but my husband will be there for the paintball and a night and me and the baby are coming up for a few hours after the paintball (yes it's an environment that I wouldn't feel bad about having a baby around, but yeah she will be sleeping, I wouldn't bring my little sister there, but mostly cuz it's teenage plus oriented). I don't recall any drugs at the actual campsite (I know of some people from other groups that were high, and one or two people from our group that went somewhere else and did something, but I never noticed). Yes there was drinking but everyone (with the exception of one or two) was of age and no one got crazy ('cept Bryan who hit on me infront of my fianc� but that was just funny). There will be a lot more underage people there this year and Graeme's made an official statement regarding underage drinking and drug use in the thread calleda href="https://assets.aq2world.com/archive/websites/aqdt.fear.net/t/ctbbb/Forum8/HTML/000014.html" TARGET=_blank> drugs at gk. Basically, if you trust your child to not drink or do drugs then they won't, because there is in NO way the feeling that you have to drink to fit in or enjoy yourself. The people that drank, drank cuz they wanted a beer after painball etc. Again, anyone that tried to push someone into drinking/smoking up would have a lot of people pissed off at them. There's also pretty good camp security. Well, in case you're worried about your son meeting crazy people over the internet, lemme tell you a little story. I started playing this game about a year and a half ago. I joined a clan to play with with some people from online. After a month I met the clan leader in person, since he lived only a few hours away. Since then I've met other clan members that he was friends with in real life, and his girlfriend. When I quit school, he offered me a place to stay, and now I live with someone I've known a little over a year in person, and met because of this game and messageboard. I've met a lot of people here in real life now like McDizzo (who I live with), Tishy, Invisibill, Leon, Victor, Trunksu, Undream, Homoaurus, Fool Killer, Ace12GA, Imrik, lilgorgor, Hamhed, and more. (Met them at a few lan parties and last years GK.)

Nobody was crazy, and none went psycho and tried to kill people (except Bryan trying to walk into the fire.) :)

Believe it or not, I am a pretty shy, overly good girl. I am very quiet in real life. I am overly shy. I am still shocked I have met people online, as I never dreamed I would, but it has been one of the best thing to ever happen to me.

I am currently at a smaller University in Adrian, Michigan. I am a first year senior. I say first year because at my school, and education student has to earn a normal degree (English for me) in addition to their teacher certification (elementary).
So, I can watch out for the boys hehe

I attended GK for a bit last year, and it was cool. The people are great and they really look out for you. I don't think there is anything to worry about in this community.

Now matt is one of my best freinds along with his girl friend. There will be some other girls there too, i feel safe to bring my girlfriend with me, i went last year was super safe, the biggest danger is really just eating too much bacon, all that greese can give you an upset stomach, mostly we sit around campfires talking about computers, paintball and where we live. a very nice weekend all in all.

update:
i went to GK with infadel (Geoff George). he flew out from california to syracuse, and we drove up together. he's really cool. my parents were really uncomfortable with that. they tricked me into getting his home #, and called his parents to speak with them. after a talk with his mother, my mom (who is REALLY overprotective) came away extremely satisfied, and actually told me to have fun! a week after GK last year, my family and i were in san fran, and i hung out with geoff while my parents and sister went and did something boring.

it really is an experience, i met a lot of cool people.

I went to gk2k (my first one) and it was a blast, and everyone was great -- there weren't any problems inside of our own group, no fights broke out - no one got hurt - all the yung-uns were well cared for. This will be the third gk not to mention the numerous LAN parties that have been thrown, so most of us know each other personally and there isn't a threat (for any parents worried that they are sending their kids off with complete strangers - we really aren't) Most everything has been said that i can think of that would be reassuring to a parent, I just wanted to throw in my two cents.
