Preparing For A Config
Before writing your own config there are some
things that must be done in order to prepare your Quake 2
installation for the config file. Since I am covering the Action
configs here I will be assuming that you are writing an Action
config and will not be interfering with any other mods, if you want
to write a config for other mods most of the techniques here are
relevant but some of the commands will be different depending on
the mod.
Preparing The Quake 2 Directory
Firstly, look inside your 'action' directory in
the 'Quake2' directory, if you see the files 'config.cfg' and/or
'autoexec.cfg' rename them to 'config.bak' and 'autoexec.bak' (so
you can go back to the old config if anything goes wrong).
Now that your old config has been cleared create a new folder and
call it 'config', I keep all my config files in this folder to make
sure everything's nice and tidy.
You are now ready to start writing your own
custom config.
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLAY ACTION WITH
YOUR SETUP IN THIS STATE - IT WILL NOT BEHAVE PROPERLY AND WILL
MESS UP THIS PROCEDURE
