March 2002

I just wanted to say...
Posted Sunday, March 31, 2002 @ 4:01PM [EST] by MP*Idle

happy holidays!

There's a thread for the mapping contest in our forum,
we encourage you to drop by and post your thoughts (and progress on map if you're making a kick-ass map for the contest!).

You can jump directly to the thread by clicking this link!

Contact us?!
Posted Thursday, March 28, 2002 @ 9:38AM [EST] by MP*Idle

I've updated the link on the bottom of the left navigation bar (the one who read Suggestions, now Contact Us).
You can choose from two forms;
one to send us your comments and stuff
and other to submit your maps!

Once again I'd like to ask you to not email us your maps (it isn't fun to receive MB's in your mail!#$),
but rather post a link in our forum or use the form located here.

You may not have noticed the counter below "Latest News" heading,
but it tells you how long is left until the contest ends.
You've got plenty of time so I suggest you use it to make your map even cooler than ever!

I wanna touch the sky...
Posted Wednesday, March 27, 2002 @ 9:27PM [EST] by MP*Idle

Ahh yes!

GreyDeath has sent us yet another great sky (Egypt),
you can find it on his page of skies.
Thanks, GreyDeath!

I've heard some rumours of who will be participating in the contest,
and I'm expecting some high quality maps!

Some of you might be thinking if there'll be some prize for the first place in the contest... and all I can tell you is that it hasn't been decided, yet.

Ahh yes... spring break!
I suggest AQ2 Marathon this time, non-stop AQ2 until the spring break is over!

Keep on rocking, guys 'n gals!

Mapping contest
Posted Sunday, March 24, 2002 @ 6:58PM [EST] by No Fear

Yes!

Great news! The AQ2 Mapping Contest, named "Work Force Mayhem" will finaly begin tomorrow, 25 March 2002. Some may already saw this coming, regarding the AQMD's poll that has been going on, or the mapping contest link on the top left.

So from tomorrow on, Work Force Mayhem is a GO! This means.. all you mappers or non-wanabee mappers out there.. this is your chance to give AQ2 another kick in the anus, by sending us your map before or on 22 April 2002! (and not 2001 as stated in the contest regulations, doh Idle)

Make sure you read our contest rules and regulations before submitting your map. It also contains a small list of idea's that could be used for your map.

Good luck.. and let the competition begin!

No Fear

oh no!
Posted Thursday, March 14, 2002 @ 3:03PM [EST] by No Fear

Hey people,

Sorry I haven't done an update for so long.. oh please do hit me! I just wanted to let you all know that something horrible has happened!

It seems that Idle somehow managed to get into a duplicating progress, and have created a little Idle... just female.

So eh.. without further adue, congratulations Idle... i'll give you a big kiss when.... when... uhm. never mind.

On to the other side, it seems there have been great responds regarding the map contest.. we might be able to hang in a sexy price, but we're not sure. Just keep up the mapping, and if you haven't started, do so now!

Sounds
Posted Monday, March 11, 2002 @ 9:50AM [EST] by MP*Idle

I've created and uploaded two new sound packs for you,
hope you find them to be useful.

Soon we'll get ready for a mapping contest.
Rules, requirements, etc will be announced here,
so stay tuned.

Remember that you can also submit your textures/skies/sounds/etc,
you aren't limited to maps only.
-----------

There have been some changes to the map rotation at Pearlmankey (www.getsomewhere.net),
AQ:ETE is being updated and tested (aqdt.fear.net),
and since AUT (Action Unreal Tournament) has been cancelled,
the AUT forum at the Action Message Boards (www.aq2zone.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi) has been turned into a general chat forum.
Remember to bring your silly hat.

More updates than you can shake a stick at!
Posted Saturday, March 9, 2002 @ 11:54AM [EST] by MP*Idle

Not really, but we've updated quite a lot of stuff for you.

Fixed the Xatrix texture pack link, removed the NSN link,
and last but not least; updated all of the map reviews
so the search engine would return some *useful* information instead of "Map review".

That'll do it for today.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Search the AQMD
Posted Wednesday, March 6, 2002 @ 10:50AM [EST] by MP*Idle

Mmmhmm... last night I installed a new search engine for the AQMD.
It's fast and flexible, and what you would spend 3 minutes to find "manually" will only take you couple of seconds now!

As for the 3D Downloads mirrors, the New York mirror appears to be up most of the time, but the Texas and Finland seem to have constant problems...

If you've tried all the mirrors, with no luck (and have given up waiting and trying again and again, etc),
there is always the Map Zone.

If you want to get the UberPAK, surf to this page.

If you're looking for individual maps, you can find most of them here.

Map Contest Rebirth
Posted Monday, March 4, 2002 @ 12:32PM [EST] by MP*Idle

After the frequent updates lately, we've reached the point where we're asking our selves:
Would another map contest bring some life back to this site?

We think it would be a good idea, and well worth the try.

Sooo... we'd like to ask you to cast your vote for it (poll on right side of page) and
email us your thoughts and ideas.
-------------

In other news, Black Monk has been fixing structure and updating contact information in every map released at the AQMD (and the map PAKs).
That is a lot of work!
Once he's done, he'll start uploading to our new mirrors, and I'll update our scripts to generate the links for each map.
Hopefully that means you will never experience time-outs, server down times or too many users problems again,
and will always get your files.

More updates!
Posted Sunday, March 3, 2002 @ 6:19PM [EST] by MP*Idle

Yap, yap!
Updated the map submission requirements page and the Sounds page.

Uhm, yes... so, I made two sound packs for our mappers,
one has some broad selection of animal sounds,
and the other one has several ambient sounds.

Then, about the map submission requirements update:

When you're zipping your map,
make sure the readme file (the text file) is named like the map,
for example: My map is named "sillymap.bsp", then the readme file would be named "sillymap.txt".

Also, the mapname.txt file should extract to a directory called "mapdocs".

So, it'd be something like this:

  • .bsp files go in c:\quake2\action\maps
  • .wal files go in c:\quake2\action\textures\myname
  • .wav files go in c:\quake2\action\sound\myname
  • .pcx and .tga files go in c:\quake2\action\env
  • .txt files go in c:\quake2\action\mapdocs

Also, here is a template for your map readme files: View Template
I suggest you save a copy to your hard drive and use it when submitting your maps, it'd make life so much easier for us when releasing the map.

Site updates
Posted Sunday, March 3, 2002 @ 10:15AM [EST] by MP*Idle

+ Added a poll (Below The Spotlight on the right side)
+ Added buttons for The OGL and AQDT
/ Setting up a new mailing list (the old one didn't work anymore)
and probably something more though I can't remember it.
+ Added couple of links and fixed others (Editors and Links pages)

It'd be appreciated if you would use that poll,
it's not there for fun, but so we can see what we can improve or change at the AQMD.
Just click an option and then submit (2 clicks, I'm sure you can do that after endless clicking in AQ2)!

If people still read the map reviews (Note: Not the Oswald Reports, those were all remotely hosted and are down now),
we might as well start revising the old ones and write new ones for all the new maps.

More Maps?!
Posted Friday, March 1, 2002 @ 3:05PM [EST] by MP*Idle

Telefragged was down for couple of hours yesterday, so you couldn't visit the AQMD from 7 to 12 PM [EST] or so.
But every network and system administrator knows that whatever goes up, must go down again...

We released two new maps yesterday, and we'd like to thank the authors for their submissions.

Those are:

Rockheim: Sky High (rhcity4.zip)
by Stefan Giesen (Igor[Rock])

The City Under Siege (citysiege.zip)
by Michael Manes (Togorian).

Minor updates and changes to the web site, added links to AQDT and OGL.
Was thinking of setting up weekly polls as well.

Hrm ... that's it for now, gotta run!
