Work Force Mayhem
An AQMD presentation |
The reason for holding
this map contest is to give all the mappers out there a chance to
once again prove their mapping worth to the Action Quake2
community. First things first, the underlying theme of the contest
is to design a level based around yours or someone else's place of
work. The setting you choose doesn't have to actually exist
(although that would help) but we would like it to resemble a
locale that people can identify with. Just to help everyone get
started, we've included a few sample settings and some
corresponding movies they were featured in. Examples:
- Shopping centers (most Jackie Chan
movies)
- Restaurants (The
Corruptor)
- Airports (Die Hard)
- Offices (The Matrix)
- Museums (Entrapment)
- Hospitals (Blade)
- Banks (Reservoir Dogs)
- Zoos (Eraser)
There are others that I didn't
mention, but are probably acceptable. We will try to be as lenient
as possible with your submissions, but don't expect your city block
to be accepted on the basis that the job you're recreating is a
trash man's route. Not to say that we're ruling out all city maps,
just make sure it has something to do with the above before
mentioned.
Rules and regulations:
By now you've
probably read some of these, but we're including them here
for clarity.
- First and foremost, there
is to be no copying, mimicing, duplicating, or recreating any
parts or areas from existing AQ2 or Q2 maps in
general.
- You may not use any
existing AQ2 or Q2 maps as bases for your submission. All of your
work must be of your own creation and not someone else's.
This part of the rule also applies to Rule no. 1.
That is unless you have received explicit written permission from
said mapper and be able to prove it. You must have the author of
the specific map of which you might need materials from email one
of the staff at the AQMD exlaining his/her situation. On top of all
that the parts of the map must fit the theme, reducing the
usefulness of doing so even further.
- There are to be no
materials/gamedata used in other commercial games in your
submission. Not without explicit permission from the company itself
and you must also be able to prove this. If you can -and it is
highly unlikely- you must have the president of said company email
one of the persons running the AQMD explaining the
situation.
- No copyrighted material
whatsoever may be used or displayed in your submission for this or
any other contest the AQMD might hold. Once again, if you can
manage to contact the proper individuals and coax them into letting
use their material, then do so. Again, you will need written proof
and have it faxed or emailed (preferably emailed) to one of the
staff here at the AQMD explaining your
situation.
- Fifth, there
will be no time extensions or allowances at all during the time in
which this contest is being held. All contestants will have 30 and
only 30 days to complete whatever they have been working on or are
just now beginning. Not for any reason at all will we delay the
contest for your map, we are sorry if this upsets anyone but rules
are rules. Failure to comply with this or any of the other rules
set forth here will result in immediate disqualification of your
entry.
-
Group projects ARE allowed. The prizes are given per entry not per competitor. So whoever is the biggest in the group will get the booty.
-
Multiple entries are NOT allowed, and will not be accepted.
You better like the map you create and submit, or it will not even stand a chance of winning.
-
Except under extenuating circumstances, all entries are final.
-
Remember to look over and understand the 'Requirements' as listed on the AQMD for submitting a map.
Any maps which fail to conform to these 'Requirements' will fail miserably.
By submitting an entry, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these rules and will abide by them.
Time
frame:
The
contest will officially kick off on March 25, 2002. It will end
approximately 30 days from when it begins (including the day it
begins), on the day of April 22, 2002.
Contact:
If
you are confused or need any information regarding the contest,
feel free to contact any of the staff here at the AQMD. We will be
happy to answer any and all of your questions regarding the
contest. I wish you all good luck and good mapping.... Let the
competition begin!
