Q3Radiant/GTKRadiant Map Editor

I personally haven't needed to update my editor from 1.4 but i'm certain the new version is coming along nicely. Here is some useful links for QERadiant related stuff. GTKRadiant is the preferred application for editing Quake III maps. If you're interested in learning mapping, GTKRadiant is the place to start. Be certain however that you have a full install of Quake III Arena on your system and have patched Q3 up to the version that suits you. 1.32 is the most up-to-date patch and OFX Q3Switcher will let you skip Quake III versions at a click if you want to move back and forth between servers with different protocols.

USEFUL INFO - Any GtkRadiant release has a major and minor number. In GtkRadiant 1.2.9.. the major version is 2 and the minor is 9 (1 is there.. just to complicate things).

The major version is incremented only when important new features are added to GTKRadiant. It means that the first releases for a new editor major will be beta testing versions, until everything is settled and we declare it 'stable'. You can have several install-ations with different major version working independently on your computer. This allows to have the stable release, and the test version at the same time.

The minor version is incremented at each new release. In many cases the package is an update over your current installation. You should always be using the latest minor for the current editor major that you have, as those are bringing in bug fixes and small functionality tweaks.

The difference between a full package and an update: Since we release new versions often, we want to keep the downloads small, so we provide <major>.<minor>-update packages, which require that you have a working installation with the given major already. You can locate updates for your current version easily by using the 'Check for updates' in the Files menu, or by sing the update selector.
